Magazine entitled 'Brownless Memorial Supplement. Being a Special Medical Supplement to 'Alma Mater'', Vol. III, No. 6, September 1898. It commemorates the life and career of Sir Anthony Colling Brownless (1817-1897), founder of Melbourne Medical School. It was once owned by D D Cade. To quote from page 17, "'Alma Mater', a monthly periodical devoted to the promotion of Australian university objects and Australian literature". Most photographs in the publication are part of the Medical History Museum Collection.

The Magazine includes on page 36 a photograph of 'Boys of the Old Brigade', with various greats including McCoy, Trood, Willis, Brownless and others.
It includes an image of Professor Harry Brookes Allen (1854-1926) lecturing students. Seated in front row: Effie Stillwell (1877-1950), Helen Shaw, Mary Baldwin (c. 1870 - 1940)

Effie Stillwell (1877-1950) attended South Melbourne College (no longer in existence) and: ‘... became the second ever female mathematical exhibitioner in Victoria and the first to gain a place in the honours list in physics and chemistry. She also secured first place in all three subjects at the Ormond College scholarship examination’.
Effie went on to become a medical student and graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 1901-02. Her career was spent almost entirely as a medical missionary in Patna, in the north of India, working for the Zenana Bible and Medical Missionary Society. For this work in India she was awarded the Kaiser-i-Hinde Medal for Public Service in India, an award from the British monarch between 1900 and 1947 to civilians of any nationality who rendered distinguished service in the advancement of the interests of the British Raj. She retired back to Melbourne in 1937 and died in 1950 aged 73.

Helen Baldwin in 1908 started a practice in Stanthorpe,Queensland and continued her career in Queensland.

Mary Baldwin (c. 1870 - 1940) was a signatory to the 1891 Women's Suffrage 'Monster' Petition. She graduated in medicine in 1902 from the University of Melbourne. Baldwin was to become the first female doctor in Kyneton.
