Description
This model was manufactured in the late 19th century by anatomist Daniel John Cunningham (1850-1909) and model makers Casciani and Son of Dublin. This is one of three such models in the Harry Brookes Allen Museum collection. This model was figured in Cunningham's 'Contribution to the surface anatomy of the cerebral hemispheres' published in 1892 in Dublin. The caption describes this model as the 'head of an old man aged seventy-five years'. For this study, Cunningham produced molds for 'twenty-two models of the human head, one of the orang, one of the chimpanzee, one of the baboon, two of the Macacque, and one of [capuchin monkey]'.
