Description
World War I pathology specimen. From the orginal label: "Foreign body removed from German prisoner. The whole fragment was embedded in the loin, in muscles of the back, and resting on the iliac bone. It had probably smashed the pelvis. The patient left the dressing station in good condition after removal of fragment at the 5th Field Ambulance, Battle of Pozieres, 1916." This specimen was obtained by Dr J. K. Adey - a lieutenant colonel in the First World War - who went on become a significant figure in psychiatric medicine in Victoria.
