Description
A green hardbound book with gold lettering on the front and spine. Biography of the physician Sir James Mackenzie (1853-1925). 316 pages. Donated by Deborah Wilson, was part of the estate of her grandfather Dr. Charles William Edgar Wilson, who studied medicine at the University of Melbourne in 1943, and his father W.E Wilson, who studied from 1903-1907.
Sir James MacKenzie(1853-1925) was a general practioner who first made simultaneous recordings of arterial and venous pulses to clarify heart function in health and disease. His clinical polygraph was a great advance as it enabled prolonged observation and the recordings were made in ink instead of using paper on which a smoky flame had deposited carbon.
