Description
This book of certificates belonged to Jack (Jacob) Lawrence Gild (1914-2007), maternal grandfather of the donor. Also included is the original envelope used by the University of Melbourne to post it to Gild, and a folded certificate of Matriculation awarded to Gild on 10 March 1932.

After graduating from Melbourne, he worked at Bendigo Base Hospital (1938-39), went to UK worked at Kent and Canterbury Hospitals. In 1939 he attempted to join the Australian army but was dismissed saying "They weren't going to give him a free trip home". So he joined the South African Army and was posted to the Western desert (Libya and Egypt) , a major stage of fighting in North Africa during the Second World War. He returned to Australia to practice as a G.P. in Deepdene, Victoria.
