Heat lamp

Date
Circa 1950
Description
Green enamel heat lamp from the 'Baby Corner' of Labour Ward 30. During the baby boom years after World War II, more babies could be born in a shift than staff could easily deal with. As they waited to be weighed and checked they were kept warm with this heat lamp. It was not needed once the new labour wards were opened in the 3AW Block in 1969. Cord measures 120cms. The date given is quite arbitrary as it would have been in use for many years.
