Obstetrics Nurses Certificate issued to Violet Purrser

Nurses Certificate issued to Violet Purrser by the Midwifery Department of the Women's Hospital. The certificate reads: "Women’s Hospital / Midwifery Department / Melbourne Oct. 29th 1900 / This is to certify that Violet Purrser has received / Instruction in the Special work of the Midwifery Department / of this Hospital for a period of six months and, after due / examination, was found to be competent to discharge the duties of / an Obstetrical Nurse."

It is signed by the Hospital President, Honorary Secretary, Resident Medical Officer and Examiners and Violet Purser.

The certificate is presented inside a brown leather folder with gold embossed borders alongside an image of the Women’s Hospital Genevieve Ward Wing (opened 1888). The text is printed in black ink and signatures are in black ink. The title is embossed on gold on the front of the folder: "NURSE’S / CERTIFICATE / WOMEN’S HOSPITAL / MIDWIFERY DEPARTMENT". 23.5 x 16.3cm (closed), 32.5 x 23.5cm (open).
