Description
Leather and suede cuffs with adjustable straps joined by a metal rod between the two; used to position patient in the knee/chest position for operations. This position is often referred to as the lithotomy position. The neck strap is missing. Discontinued around mid 1970's and replaced by laparoscopy. Irregular dimensions. The device was invented by Joseph Clover (1825-1885), a surgeon and anaesthetist to maintain patients in lithotomy for urological procedures. It was also used for obstetrics and was still being used in the early 20th century.
