Description
A white plastic contraceptive device consisting of a spiral with a long tail. The Gynekoil intra-uterine device was the first plastic IUD device introduced in the US in the early 1960s. Designed by Lazar Marguiles (1895-1982) and made by the Ortho Pharmaceutical Corporation, the rigid tail was meant to make it easier for women to check that the device was in place.



Used from the early 1960s to the early 1970s.
