The certificate reads: "Women’s Hospital / Midwifery Department / Melbourne 10. 4. 31. / This is to certify / that Elsie McIntyre has received Instruction in the / Special Work of the Midwifery Department of this Hospital for a period of / six months and, after due examination, was found to be competent / to discharge the duties of an Obstetrical Nurse."

The certificate has black and gold printed text, a gold and black decorative border; it is printed on cream paper. Names and signatures are in black and blue ink.
