A redox indicator is a reversible (i.e. reversible as often as desired) redox system whose reduced and oxidised forms are coloured differently. A distinction is made between two-color indicators such as ferroin (color change blue – red) and monochrome indicators such as methylene blue (envelope blue – colorless) or phenosafranin (envelope red – colorless).
