Maker
William Lockhart Rait (b.1909, d.2013)
Date
1944-1945
Description
Postcranial elements from a short-beaked echidna (Tachyglossus aculeatus), articulated with dried tissue. The bones comprise an articulated pectoral girdle, a partial articulated spinal column - made up of two thoracic, three lumbar, three sacral, and nine caudal vertebrae - with hip girdle, and left and right epipubic bones. It is likely the pectoral and pelvic girdles come from two different individuals. Originally found in the same box with a tiny bird skull and mandible, and a fish skull.
