Date
Circa 1905
Description
Plaster cast of proximal end of a partial radius from a Neanderthal (Homo neanderthalensis). This bone was part of a fossil assemblage discovered in Krapina, Croatia between 1899 and 1905. These Neanderthal fossils have been dated at 120-130 thousand years old and represent one of the largest assemblages of Upper Pleistocene human skeletal remains ever found. These casts were bought by the Anatomy Department in the early 1900s to use as teaching specimens in classes on human anatomy and evolution.
