Description
A medical tourniquet with a metal clasp and green strap, stored inside a plastic green case. The tourniquet was produced by Prämeta, a German medical company founded in 1946.

Tourniquets have been used for centuries as a common method to control bleeding. In the 19th century, knowledge of how to construct a makeshift tourniquet was considered to be a useful skill for soldiers, as well as doctors. Manufactured tourniquets also were developed during the 19th century and increasingly became a common item in medical kits and surgical equipment. Although makeshift tourniquets are often ineffective, contemporary medical opinion today that when performed with professional equipment and by trained medical personal tourniquets can improve a patient's chance of recovery.
