In 1940, two mineralised skulls and other human bones were found northwest of Melbourne, at Dry Creek, Maribyrnong River near Keilor, Victoria, Australia. One skull complete except for mandible, was described and discussed along side the reports below.

The author, Daniel James Mahony (1878-1944), entered Ormond College at the University of Melbourne in 1898 and graduated B.Sc. (1904) and M.Sc. (1906), specializing in geology under Professors J. W. Gregory and E. W. Skeats.
During Gregory's absences in 1902-04 he demonstrated in geology. From 1931 Mahony was the Director of the National Museum of Victoria.

Part of a collection of objects from Dr. William Adam, relating to his thesis for the degree of D.D Sc in 1940, in which his research on jaws and teeth of 56 Tasmanian Aboriginal skulls are recorded, and his paper on the Keilor Fossil Skull: Palate and Upper Dental arch published in 1943.
