Manila folder of thesis notes annotated.
This thesis was presented for the Degree of Doctor of Dental Science. The thesis is a study of Aboriginal Tasmanian dentition, in which research on jaws and teeth of 56 Tasmanian Aboriginal skulls are recorded.
For the study, a device for measuring angles of the mandible was constructed by the researcher, (HFA867) modelled after an apparatus from the Galton Laboratory at University College London, the epicentre of 20th century eugenics research.
In 1943 Adams published a paper, 'The Keilor fossil skull; palate and upper dental arch' in which he references the recordings in his thesis, it was published in Memoirs of the National Museum, Melbourne, 1943.
William Adam D.DSc (1894-1973) graduated from the University of Melbourne, Bachelor of Dental Science in 1915. He was President of the Victorian branch of the Australian Dental Association in 1934, and received a Doctor of Dental Science, University of Melbourne and Honorary dental staff member, Alfred Hospital, 1946.
