Typed copy of "The Jaws and Dentition of the Tasmanian Aborigines" by William Adam B.D.Sc..
This thesis was presented for part II. of the Degree of Doctor of Dental Science, Part I. having already been passed by examination in Anatomy, completed at the University of Melbourne School of Dental Science in1940.
The thesis is a study of Aboriginal Tasmanian dentition, in which research on jaws and teeth of 56 Tasmanian Aboriginal skulls are recorded.
For the study, a device for measuring angles of the mandible was constructed by the researcher, (HFA867) modelled after an apparatus from the Galton Laboratory at University College London, the epicentre of 20th century eugenics research.
William Adam graduated from the University of Melbourne, Bachelor of Dental Science in 1915. He was President of the Victorian branch of the Australian Dental Association in 1934, and received a Doctor of Dental Science, University of Melbourne, in 1940.
