Seven Dental Therapy Students graduated at the Sixteenth graduation of Dental Therapists, (1995/1996). The first group of students to graduate from the Diploma of Applied Science (Dental Therapy) at the University of Melbourne, their first year was completed at Dental Therapy School 448 St Kilda Road, Melbourne.

Since 1976, the dental therapy course in Victoria was run under the Department of Health. At that time, Dental therapists were awarded a Diploma of Applied Science (Dental Therapy).
In 1993/4, the Department decided to devolve the training of dental therapists to a tertiary educational institution and, following a tendering process, the training moved, in 1995, to The University of Melbourne.
