In 1993/4, the Department of Health decided to devolve the training of dental therapists to a tertiary educational institution and, following a tendering process, the training moved, in 1995, to The University of Melbourne.
The qualification was retained at a 2-year Diploma Level program and renamed as the ‘Diploma in Oral Health Therapy’ with two streams: dental therapy and dental hygiene.
