In Australia caries rates were high and children had numerous caries, abscesses and many needed permanent teeth extractions which Dental Therapists were able to do at the time. Part of the Dental Therapists role was dental prevention, giving lessons about diet and oral health to educate the children. This included going into the primary schools to educate teachers, parents and classroom lessons, even change canteens for caries prevention.
