The Dental Therapy School was established in 1976 under the auspice of Dental Health Services, Department of Health Victoria. The school was located at 448 St Kilda Road Melbourne,the ground floor of the building housed the Department of Health. At that time, Dental therapists were awarded a Diploma of Applied Science (Dental Therapy).
In 1993/4, the Department decided to devolve the training of dental therapists to a tertiary educational institution and, following a tendering process, the training moved, in 1995, to The University of Melbourne.
