The author, Hermann Prinz, M.D., D.D.S. was a Professor of Materia Medica, Therapeutics, and Pathology at Washington University Dental School, St. Louis. He was also the Chairman of the Committee of Revision of the United States Pharmacopeia and Section of Stomatology at the American Medical Association.
