Photograph of an original painted photograph of Dr. William Sherwin (1804-1874) as an old man in an academic gown, sash and holding a fur-lined hat. The photograph probably marked the occasion of Dr. Sherwin qualifying for his F.R.A.C.S. in 1862. William Sherwin was the first Australian born M.D., apprenticed to William Bland in 1817 and having completed his studies in London (M.R.C.S.). One print and eight negatives, some in Supplementary File.

The original photograph was inherited by Mr. Con MacGuillycuddy who is a descendant of Dr. Sherwin's sister.
