Mounted sepia portrait photograph of Dr. Frederick Dougan Bird (1858 - 1929), President of the Medical Society of Victoria in 1896, in army uniform, depicting his head and upper torso. Underneath the photograph is a handwritten inscription, "Frederick Dougan Bird President Medical Society of Victoria 1896". The photograph was originally framed as indicated by tack indentations on the backing board.

This item was originally collected by the Medical Society of Victoria (which later became part of the Victorian Branch of the Australian Medical Association). The A.M.A. donated its historical collection of documents and artifacts to the University of Melbourne's Medical History Museum in 1994.
