Description
Clear cylindrical glass tube with flat-topped metal screw-on lid, containing "Merson's Selected Horse Hair" by G.F. Merson Ltd., Edinburgh, Scotland. Spool of horsehair is floating in sterilized solution. Glass tube is encased in yellow cylindrical cardboard tube, with flattened top and bottom ends and red, blue, black on white label.

Originally donated to the Medical Society of Victoria (which later became part of the Victorian Branch of the Australian Medical Association). The A.M.A. loaned its museum collection of documents and artefacts to the University of Melbourne in 1994 and gifted in 2011.
