Mortar and pestle

Description
Large mortar and pestle set. Mortar comprises thick-walled porcelain bowl with flattened and curved lip. Pestle has cylindrical porcelain tip and turned wooden handle with circular end knob. Both items bear blue stains from a solution prepared in the bowl.

Originally donated to the Medical Society of Victoria (which later became part of the Victorian Branch of the Australian Medical Association). The A.M.A. loaned its museum collection of documents and artefacts to the University of Melbourne in 1994 and gifted in 2011.
