Joseph Gray & Son (estab. 1849, closed 1965)
Late 19th Century
This type of instrument was used to extract remnants after a craniotomy in difficult labour. The steel crotchet has a cross-hatched ebony guard handle. The shaft bends slightly backwards and flattens, curving around to form a flat, blunt, round ended hook. The ends of the cross guard handle is patterned in concentric circles.
