Anatomical teaching model: partial lower jaw and skull, likely a Maison Tramond model, from the mid-late nineteenth century Paris. Shows roots of teeth, and the various nerves and blood vessels. Model has an exploded upper jaw. The bone has been removed to show the nerves and blood vessels passing through the jaw bone.
Mounted on brass and a wooden board.

Anatomical models were used for teaching purposes and for dental students to practise their manual dexterity. The earliest specimens were dissections of human skulls.
