Date
Circa 1920
Description
Made as a teaching specimen, this object comprises articulated upper and lower models made of plaster with attached upper and lower cast metal splints. It models the mouth of a patient with a fracture of the right mandible probably right through to the molar region. The upper model is fitted with a splint covering the six upper incisors; the lower splint covers the left lower first premolars to the right cuspid and extends backwards to cover the remaining second molar. The two splints are locked together with an anterior tube and screw in order to keep the jaw fixed in position during healing.
