Dentimeter

Description
Straight handled. 6.0 mm in diameter with transverse hole at one end but no stud. Uncertain whether stud is missing or this instrument is designed without one. For measuring wire. Handle is made of ebony or vulcanite ebonite. Instrument used to determine root diameter. A short length of soft wire was secured to the post and the free end passed through the hole and a loop formed. The loop was passed over the root, the handle rotated to twist and tighten the wire. The loop was then removed, cut and straightened with the length giving the exact circumference of the tooth.
