Mounted sepia photograph of the doctors attending the Intercolonial Medical Congress in Melbourne, 1889. This photograph is a montage created from smaller individual portrait photographs, with hand-painted background. The photography studio which produced this photomontage was Johnstone O'Shannessy & Co. Ltd.

History of Object

This item was originally donated to the British Medical Association (which later became the Victorian Branch of the Australian Medical Association). The A.M.A. donated its historical collection of documents and artifacts to the University of Melbourne's Medical History Museum in 1994.
